Join us in Paris, the City of Lights and home to the worlds most famous artists and photographers. From Chagall, Picasso and Rodin to Atget, Brassai, Man Ray and Cartier-Bresson, Paris has been the backdrop of artistic inspiration for centuries. Now it’s your turn to walk in the footsteps of these groundbreaking artists, move away from conventional approaches to photography and push the boundaries of creativity. In this workshop the challenge will not be how to capture a great image of the Eiffel Tower, but rather how to capture the Eiffel Tower in a new and unique way, in a way that no photographer has captured it before, in a way that captures its heart and soul rather than merely what it looks like. As Audrey Hepburn’s character so eloquently put it in the movie Sabrina, “Oh, but Paris isn't for changing planes, it's... it's for changing your outlook, for... for throwing open the windows and letting in... letting in la vie en rose.” So join us. After all, Paris is always a good idea.
The workshop will begin on Sunday, April 19th at approximately 4:00PM for a "meet & greet" at our hotel after which we will make our way to a quintessential Paris brasserie or bistro for an aperitif and dinner and conclude around lunchtime on Sunday April 25th.
Each day we will visit different locations across Paris. Our itinerary will remain flexible to take advantage of the light, weather and unexpected opportunities. We will explore the modern architecture of La Dèfense, Frank Gehry's Foundation Louis Vuitton and the Pompidou Center. We will wander the Marais and the Left Bank, try and capture the I.M. Pei pyramid at the Louvre in new and innovative ways, visit the Photographique Museum European, take in the graffiti of Belleville and explore Père Lachaise Cemetery and everything in between.
Each location will allow participants to practice different techniques, pursue their individual photographic styles, hone their skills, learn to see differently and expand their personal photographic vision.
Over the course of the workshop, participants will also have the opportunity to meet individually with Jonathan or Deb (or both) for a one-on-one session to review images, ask questions, talk photography or fine tune photoshop skills. The agenda for the hour is up to you.
Finally, four to six weeks after the workshop, there will be a Zoom meeting to share images from our time in Paris, ask still unanswered questions and see firsthand how Jonathan approaches post-processing.
